15 Oct BREAKING NEW GROUND
People ages 40 and up are pioneers – pioneers of an entirely different kind. These high performing individuals are learning how to “finish well” in a world that has programmed us differently. These pioneers are rewriting the rules of success for what is clearly going to be a second adulthood for a huge proportion of the population. Are you ready for what is quite possibly going to be the most remarkable 30 years of your life?
Peter Drucker has said that “second careers” or “second halfs” have become buzzwords – increasingly men and women take early retirement, but they do not stop working. They choose to start working in areas that fulfill them exponentially and create lasting and meaningful change, leaving legacies for future generations.
And, you don’t have to leave work to develop the significance potential in your life. You don’t have to be rich or obtain certain credentials. Living a life of significance is all about using your knowledge, skills and experiene to add value to the lives of others.
There is a thundering herd of boomers entering midlife – their kids are grown up, it’s getting quieter around the house, they’ve been to funerals of friends and the are wondering about the meaning of things. They’ve all got to the point where they know the right questions to ask, but now they are looking for answers.
The first half is amout making your mark. Second adulthoods are all about relationships and priorities. We have a lifespan of about 30,000 days and we spend about a third of that time sleeping. That means we have a waking lifespan of about 20,000 days. If you had twenty days left what would you do with them? Funny how universally, this question is answered in areas that involve relationships.
